At Config 2026, Figma showed how quickly the way design happens is changing. Code can be brought onto the canvas, motion and visual effects are becoming part of the same environment, and AI agents can support design tasks in real time.
The movement is not only coming from design tools. A few months earlier, Anthropic launched Claude Design, a product that lets people create visual work such as designs, prototypes, slides and one-pagers from within Claude.
The announcement was read by markets as competitive pressure on Figma. Together, these moves point to a broader shift: AI assistants, design tools, prototyping environments and production workflows are starting to overlap. For designers, that changes where their value shows up. As execution becomes more accessible, the work becomes less about producing every option by hand and more about giving direction to the system, the team and the outcome.
