IKEA Studio AR SDK is an intelligent Augmented Reality solution that enables IKEA to incorporate a new immersive experience into their mobile app enhancing the user’s shopping experience leveraging the SDK as a standalone app.

It is a holistic experience enabling the design from multiple devices facilitating collaboration with others on design. From several thousand IKEA products, users can place pieces of furniture in a room’s environmental context, recognizing obstacles and providing the capability of designing an entire room(s).

Easily make floor plans

During the design process it is possible to scan your space to create a 3D rendering of your room, apartment or house’s floor plan - this includes drawing doors and windows. It also measures your space so you get the perfect ratio, for the right products for you in app and in store.

The later placement of the different products, will automatically be updated within your 3D floor plan, so an easy overview of the design can be provided. Another feature facilitates the sharing and collaboration with others over multiple sessions. Users can export designs via an App Clip to be shared and viewed out of the app, and export via AirDrop, SMS, Mail etc. Further lowering the threshold of collaboration.

Bring 3D models into your living space

The whole experience is developed, so it can be a standalone application, but also act as an SDK that can be implemented into already existing IKEA apps to secure the highest possible business flexibility and scalability. In addition, the solution is localized to different regional IKEA apps enabling users to know what products are available in each region and have the 3D models of the products available – there are thousands of existing 3D models.

Integrated with ecommerce: Shop what you love

The AR experience is further closely integrated with the eCommerce experience. Combining the commerce app and SDK, users can add products from a room straight to the basket.

This is a rich AR experience focusing way beyond a design tool, including the ability to select between different product variants, adding shadows to the floor, adding light reflections of the room to the 3D products - all to secure a high fidelity and immersive AR experience.
