Länsförsäkringar is one of Sweden’s largest financial groups, offering insurance, banking, and real estate services through its regional companies. With a long tradition of supporting households, they set out to rethink what home insurance could be in a connected world.

Together, we created Alf: a smart home app that helps people prevent costly damage before it happens. By combining insurance expertise with digital innovation, Alf represents a new generation of insurance services designed to make everyday life safer, simpler, and more proactive.

Home insurance is often top of mind only after damage has already occurred. A leaking pipe, a break-in, or smoke can quickly become stressful and expensive. Länsförsäkringar wanted to change that pattern: rather than focusing solely on claims and compensation, the goal was to give people practical tools that surface risks earlier and make it easier to act in time.

Together with Länsförsäkringar, we created Alf: an app that pairs insurance expertise with connected technology to make prevention part of everyday life. Alf links to supported smart-home devices such as water leak detectors, smoke alarms, and burglary protection systems. 

When something seems off, Alf can trigger immediate in-app alerts, activate device sirens, and send SMS messages to designated emergency contacts. For added assurance, users can connect an optional 24/7 alarm center. The app supports multiple sensor categories and integrates with IoT backends, ensuring reliable event capture and a clear incident history. This architecture enables timely notifications and provides a scalable foundation for adding future device types without rework. The result is a shift from reactive insurance to a proactive service that helps people stay one step ahead at home.
