A digital upgrade for long-term investing

Brand New Day is a Dutch fintech founded in 2010 to challenge the status quo in pension products. At a time when complex, high-cost policies were the norm, founders Kalo Bagijn and Thierry Schaap set out to build something better: a fully digital bank with no branches, just outstanding service. Their approach is simple: offer smart, low-cost savings and investment products, and let customer satisfaction drive long-term growth. By 2023, with over €6 billion in assets under management for more than 300,000 users, the next step was clear: a native mobile app for a new generation of investors.

Three partners, one shared goal

Before the app was released, Brand New Day clients could only view and manage their accounts through a responsive web interface. While the web platform performed well, demand for a mobile app had been growing fast. With no in-house app team in place, Brand New Day launched an RFP, through which Framna Netherlands got involved. Based on our experience with secure, high-performance banking apps, the bank trusted us with the build. The design was handled by Rōnin Amsterdam, a team we were already eager to collaborate with.

Investment management from your pocket

The first version of the app launched in November 2023. It allows users to monitor their investment performance, track account value, and deposit money directly via iDEAL. To ensure a smooth and responsive experience, we built as many screens as possible natively, resulting in fast interactions and a product that feels intuitive from the start.

Fast and flawless

With rising demand for a Brand New Day mobile app, time was tight. But when it comes to app development, speed and security rarely go hand in hand. Given Brand New Day’s requirements for security, UX and performance, we recommended a fully native approach. While native apps typically take longer to build, they are known for delivering better performance and smoother user experiences. Hybrid apps may be faster and cheaper to deploy across platforms, but often come with performance trade-offs and limited support for advanced animations or custom transitions.

Where detail drives experience

The app features a range of advanced animations and design details that elevate the user experience, from layered motion in backgrounds to seamless transitions between screens. Users navigate through custom dashboards, animated UI elements, and even a tailor-made keyboard for iDEAL payments. A complex build, no doubt, but exactly the kind of challenge our developers thrive on.

Dream team

The app launched on schedule, within the agreed one-year scope. That milestone was only possible thanks to the exceptional collaboration between Brand New Day, Rōnin Amsterdam and Framna. When you bring together three high-performing teams with shared ambition, something special happens. Secure by design

The Brand New Day app is not just user-friendly, it is built for trust. Existing customers log in with their username and password, then set a personal access code for future use. The app also features multi-factor authentication, with biometric login options via facial recognition or fingerprint. Security is not an add-on; it is built into every layer.

Brand new yay!

The Brand New Day app was met with an overwhelmingly positive response. In the first two weeks after launch, it was downloaded more than 40,000 times, achieving a 30% conversion rate. December, traditionally the busiest month of the year for Brand New Day, saw nearly 7,000 app sessions per day, accounting for over 20% of all digital traffic. That same month, thanks in part to the new app, the company saw a 31% year-over-year increase in customer growth. With new features already in the works, we look forward to evolving the product together, and continuing this Fearless Collaboration.
