Swish is Sweden’s leading payment method, connecting phone numbers to bank accounts, making instant payments possible. It is part of everyday life for 8.7 million people, used by 98 percent of the adult population, and trusted by individuals, businesses, and public organizations.

Since 2017, Framna has worked with Swish to design and build the core digital experiences that makes this possible: from the consumer app millions use daily to business tools and the nationwide web platform.

Instant payments made practical

Swish is more than a payment tool. For millions of people in Sweden, it is a daily habit: a quick tap that keeps everyday payments simple, safe, and fast. To sustain that simplicity at national scale, every detail must be intentional.

Before Swish, paying someone often meant carrying cash or waiting days for a bank transfer to clear. Everyday moments such as splitting a dinner bill, buying second-hand, or donating to a fundraiser were slower, more complicated, and less connected. Today, it happens in seconds.

While cash remains an important option, Swish has become the default choice for instant person-to-person and everyday payments. Together, we have created a service that is fast, inclusive, and trusted nationwide.

Designing lasting trust

Together with Swish, Framna focused on one core idea: design as the foundation for trust. We refined every layer of the experience, from UX and front-end design to motion, sound, and accessibility. Each interaction was shaped to feel immediate and intuitive, no matter who the user is.

Long before accessibility regulations took effect, inclusion and privacy were treated as design principles, not compliance checkboxes. Every decision was guided by ethics and responsibility: making payments that work for everyone, without tracking more than necessary. Working with the Swedish Association of the Visually Impaired, we ensured that every color contrast, motion cue, and announcement performs seamlessly with assistive technologies.

Details that reassure

Playfulness was also built into the design language. The Swish sound, fluid animations, and the Swish piano are more than a playful touch: helping users instantly recognize a genuine Swish app can be enough to feel confident that their transfer was complete in casual use cases. It is thoughtful design that entertains but also reassures.

The result is an app that millions rely on every day: fast, inclusive, and instantly familiar. It combines precision with personality, showing that great design builds not only usability, but lasting trust.

Digital commerce at your fingertips

As Swish became part of everyday life, businesses of all sizes started to depend on it. While larger companies already used Swish Commerce for online payments, smaller merchants needed tools that were just as immediate and intuitive. Together, we designed and built the Swish Business app, a real-time dashboard that brings performance, security, and simplicity together for SMEs.

The app allows businesses to monitor incoming payments as they happen, manage sales and employee access, and generate QR codes for quick in-person transactions. It also supports payouts to customers, simplifying refunds and reimbursements with the same reliability that defines Swish.

Today, more than 300,000 companies offer Swish as a payment option, a number that continues to grow as Swish strengthens its position in Sweden’s digital commerce landscape. Built for merchants, the app extends Swish’s precision and trust to the business community, connecting people, payments, and everyday transactions.

Connecting the experience

Swish is more than two apps. Behind every transfer lies a system of banks, businesses, and technical partners that must work in perfect sync. To support this ecosystem, swish.nu is the information and service platform that connects users, developers, and organizations around one shared experience.

Together with Swish, Framna designed and evolved the web experience to make that connection clear. The site acts as both the public face of the service and a practical guide for those integrating Swish into their systems. It offers documentation, onboarding flows, and support for developers, while also giving users access to updates, help, and educational resources.

Behind the scenes, Framna also contributed to the Swish Support Tool, the internal platform used by banks and support teams to manage transactions, detect fraud, and maintain service quality. Together, these digital platforms complement the Swish apps by adding transparency and reliability to the broader experience. They bring clarity to complexity and make Sweden’s most trusted payment service feel seamless at every level.

Since 2017, Framna has helped Swish translate that responsibility into design decisions, technical clarity, and product foundations that work for millions of users.

As Swish’s role in society has expanded, so has the work behind it. Together, we have shaped the evolution from simple transfers to new forms of everyday commerce. Self-scan with Swish is one example: a feature that lets shoppers scan items and pay directly in the Swish app. Framna contributed to the interaction design, accessibility considerations, and front-end foundations that make the experience fast, intuitive, and dependable in a real retail environment.

The same collaboration has guided Swish’s presence online. Integrated checkout flows, secure in-app identification, and clear, structured documentation for partners were all developed with a shared focus on reducing friction — for users, businesses, and the banks that rely on Swish every day.
