With thousands of flexible workers across the Netherlands, Timing is one of the country’s leading staffing agencies. Since 2017, we have been the digital partner behind the Timing app, helping flex workers manage hours, scheduling, and time off.
Originally built as a practical tool for active workers, the app has evolved into a high-performing recruitment and engagement platform. Timing’s ambition was to turn everyday digital interactions into direct business value. Together, we rebuilt the app from the ground up and added smart personalization, native job flows and deep infrastructure improvements.
The result is a powerful product that puts users first, accelerates placement and drives measurable progress.

Built for real life: product thinking in motion
The renewed Timing app started from a sharp product vision: make life easier for flex workers. That meant simplifying everything. That meant stripping away complexity and designing around action. The result: a minimalist UX with a bold visual identity, bottom navigation built for doing, and short, direct copy that speaks to the user. Whether users want to register hours, request time off or message their contact person: it is all available within one or two taps. Flows use a dark theme to contrast with the dashboard and reinforce clarity and focus.

Rebuilt from the ground up, designed for what is next
When Timing set out to redefine its digital experience, we did not tweak the old app, we replaced it. We rebuilt the entire product from scratch: a new backend, a stable middleware layer, a fully redesigned front-end, and a dedicated API infrastructure to connect seamlessly with internal systems. Every screen, flow and interaction was rethought based on real user input and business priorities. From the start, we made everything measurable. We track usage through Firebase and Google Analytics, run continuous A/B tests and use real-world feedback to guide iteration. The result: a fast, stable and scalable app that gives Timing full control and their users total clarity.

Fast onboarding, better retention
Onboarding is a one-time moment, and you only get one chance to get it right. For Timing, this moment is critical: it shapes engagement, job satisfaction and productivity from day one. That is why we designed a seamless flow that introduces new flex workers to their workplace with speed and confidence. Structured in short chapters, the onboarding module makes expectations clear, checks understanding, and keeps everything accessible afterwards. In user testing, the onboarding was rated 8 out of 10 by new flex workers. Timing now gets people up and running faster, with more clarity and less friction.
Personalization power: from retention to acquisition
The Timing app was initially designed as a tool for existing flex workers, giving them insight into planning, hours and pay. It also featured a button that linked to job openings on the Timing website. In other words: the app functioned as a referral tool, not a direct application channel. That changed when Timing set a new ambition: transform the app into an active recruitment driver. The key? Personalization. By integrating BlueConic’s Customer Data Platform (CDP), we enabled the app to match open positions with the right candidates in real time. It connects data from multiple sources, including education, work history, search behavior, and location.
Users now see tailored job recommendations the moment they open the app, automatically prioritized by fit and relevance. Promoted listings are supported through push notifications and in-app promo modules. And thanks to the new native application flow, candidates can apply in just two taps, without ever leaving the app.
The result: the app is no longer just a relationship tool, but a high-performing entry point for new talent. A real conversion engine that supports Timing’s hiring goals, reduces time-to-fill and builds long-term value.
